What a disappointment. The room is tiny with no cupboard or drawer where you can place your clothes, so you have to put your stuff on the bed.The bathroom was disgusting, had not been cleaned, a bunch of hair plugged the floor drain and there is no handfasting in the 5'x3' bathroom. The taps and soapdish is all have never been cleaned and the toilet bowl was not cleaned. The bed was okay, the A/C barely cools down the room. The place just needs a deep cleaning,to clean and maintain a small room would not take long. Been in Indai for two months and this was the most disappointing place to date. The staff are helpful and friendly.
The room was quite hot but fine. The place was in a great location near the ghats and near the temples. The owner of this place is so friendly. He gave us a walking tour and told us about the city while showing les visited places. So much value for the money. Only downside was that the river was too high for the boat ride and the ghat show too see it well.
I wont recommending this property to anyone. Here is the story that happened with me and my family. The manager is threatening me legal action while simultaneously asking me to remove my review in private. For clarity, I had posted only one review—not two, as the manager/owner incorrectly suggested—and even that has gone unacknowledged by him. Not once did I receive an apology or even a basic acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused to me and my family. We were a group of four individuals, and I cannot (nor should I) prevent others from sharing their own experiences. When a host fails to treat guests with the respect and care that hospitality demands, it’s only fair that customers raise their voices. Our reviews do not contain false claims—they reflect the reality we encountered. If you're truly concerned, I suggest focusing on your services and your approach, rather than targeting those who share honest feedback. What also needs to be pointed out is the significant overcharging at your Varanasi property. rooms that are worth around ₹2,000 are being priced at ₹5,000, without offering any service, warmth, or basic hospitality in return. The lack of courtesy and attentiveness shown to guests is something we felt clearly during our stay, and unfortunately, it’s also evident in how you publicly respond to positive reviews while brushing aside or reacting defensively to critical ones. Sending a deletion request via WhatsApp while making public threats of legal action not only feels unprofessional, but also deeply inconsistent. This approach doesn’t reflect accountability—it reflects avoidance. I’m not here to argue—I’m here to speak the truth. Guests deserve to know both the positives and the shortcomings before making decisions. Curated images and a selective response strategy cannot conceal the full picture. And if most of your positive feedback is from international travelers, I genuinely hope it’s rooted in authentic experience—not influence. I truly hope you take this as an opportunity to reflect, not react. As for me, I’ll continue to share honest feedback—because transparency matters, and respect is a two-way street
Ganga Guest house was amazing! Raj and his family were very welcoming and super helpful the entire stay, ensuring we were always comfortable. Rooms were clean and house is in a great location, central to many things. Raj was very helpful with any questions we had. Would highly recommend if visiting varanasi to stay here!
I think the location is great but that is about it. The rooms are fine but the washrooms are tiny, no basin, no separation between loo and bathing area, no direct access from the room. You have to step out to the balcony and then enter the washroom, which turn into a sauna in summers because the exterior AC unit blows scorching air towards the washroom. The managers / owners are a bit too proud of the legacy BUT I think the place can learn and be more contemporary
Our stay at Ganga Guest House in Varanasi was a decent and satisfying experience, particularly for travelers looking to stay close to the ghats and immerse themselves in the spiritual heart of the city. The location is both a strength and a challenge — while it is ideally situated within the old city and just a 2–3 minute walk from the ghats, reaching the guest house involves navigating narrow lanes on foot for about 10 minutes. This could be slightly overwhelming for first-time visitors, especially if you’re carrying luggage. One valuable tip: call the owner as soon as you reach the main road — the team is very helpful and will arrange assistance or a rickshaw with a porter, which made our departure much easier. Unfortunately, we missed this service on arrival, but it was smoothly arranged during checkout, and the porter service charged a modest and fair fee for handling four pieces of luggage. The rooms are small but functional — clean and sufficient for short stays, though travelers used to more spacious accommodations might find them a bit compact. The restrooms are similarly small but serve their purpose well. If space is a concern, try to book the family room, which is reportedly much more spacious — unfortunately, we couldn't secure it during our visit. While we didn’t get to try the breakfast due to our morning rituals and temple visits, we were told the spread is good, and the service seemed prompt. One highlight was the helpful attitude of the owner, who personally assisted in carrying our luggage up to the third floor — a very kind gesture that reflects the warm hospitality extended by the guest house staff. In summary, Ganga Guest House is best suited for travelers prioritizing proximity to the ghats, especially those involved in rituals or daily visits to the river. It may not be ideal for those seeking luxury or large spaces, but for a clean, helpful, and authentic Varanasi stay, it delivers good value. Just remember to coordinate with the staff on arrival for smoother access — that support was exceptional.
